In 1976, Charles Wang and Russell Artzt founded Computer and Associate Company, and in the same year, the company obtained an exclusive distribution right in North America for CA-Sort which was then a merger and data management utility software program. 

In the year 1987, the company entered the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) market and started trading under the ticker symbol, CA. The following year, 1988, the company bought the main software of a company operating under the name, Consco.  

 However, by the end of the 1980s, the company’s sales exceeded $1 Billion making it emerge as the first company after Microsoft Company to achieve such feat. And by 1991, the company recorded a its sale amounting to $1.4 Billion USD. 

In the year 1994, CA Technologies bought ASK Group and continued to provide the Ingre database management system under diverse brand names. 

In the year 1995, the company acquired Legent Corporation in a deal valued at $1.78 billion. The deal technically became the largest-ever deal to be sealed in the software industry. And in the following years between 1996 and 1999, CA Technologies purchased two additional companies operating under the name Cheyenne Software and Platinum Technology International in a deal valued at $1. billion and $3.5 billion respectively. 

In the year 2003, on December 10 the company opens its India Technology Centre in Hyderabad. And in 2004, an ex-IBM staff was appointed as the company’s CEO in the person of JonH Swainson. John however occupied the position for a 5-year term as he retired in the year 2009. 

In the year 2010, CA Technologies was enlisted among the companies with the best practice that supports environmental sustainability. And in the same year 2010, CA Technologies bought up to 8 firms in a bid to help expand and improve its cloud computing strategy. In the following year, the company also purchased ITKO for a total sum of $330 million. However, in the year 2013, the company again bought a startup that deals with deployment as well as a management company tagged with the name, Nolio for a total sum of $40 million USD. 

In the year 2015, CA Technologies bought four companies with the inclusion of a company under the name, Rally Software which was bought for $480 million. In the year 2016, bought four additional companies. However, in the year 2018, the company’s board of directors elected a new CEO in the person of Mike Gregoire.

In the year 2018, February, CA Technologies was ranked among the World’s Most Ethical Companies making it the third time in a row based on the assessment carried out by Ethispare Institute.  On the 11th of July, 2018, Broadcom revealed in a press statement that it would buy CA Technologies with a whopping $18.9 billion USD in a cash transactions. However, a couple of months after the company’s disclosure, the acquisition was sealed off on the 5th of November, 2018. However, the acquisition led to the retrenchment of CA Technologies’ staff in Silicon Valley as well as Plan in Texas. Additionally, the company also fired up to 262 workers of CA Technologies in some other cities and states of the United States.
