When Estee Lauder and her husband Joseph started making cosmetics in New York City in1946, the firm was born. At first, they only offered four items: Creme Pack, Super Rich All-purpose Creme, Skin Lotion, and Cleansing Oil. Controversies

Children were reportedly seen manufacturing goods for Origins, one of Estee Lauder’s natural product lines, in a facility in Cambridge, New York, in 2001. Common Sense Natural Soap & Bodycare, which was hired, was run by a cult led by Yoneq Gene Spriggs. Estee Lauder said that after the initial inspection it was completely uninformed and decided to immediately terminate the contract with the manufacturer with whom it had been doing business for five years.

The Estee Lauder Companies conduct non-animal and volunteer human testing to evaluate the efficacy and safety of their products. Animal testing is conducted on products made by the Estee Lauder Companies as required by local legislation. Numerous cosmetic goods must undergo animal testing in China, according to the government. Smaller companies that were acquired by Estee Lauder but are “cruelty free” are upset by this.

Estee Lauder and its brands have been the target of a boycott campaign since at least February2001, spearheaded by pro-Palestine activists who dislike the company because Ronald Lauder supports Israel. With their “Estee Slaughter” campaign, the San Francisco-based Queers Undermining Israeli Terrorism (QUIT) took up the boycott in June 2003. Israel supporters have launched an anti-boycott campaign in response to the boycott.
